basically another way of saying I really enjoy Virginia’s wine scene.
This past weekend, we embarked on our fourth-annual (you may remember last-year’s adventure) wine tasting weekend with two of our great friends Charley and Megan, who made the trek from New York to test out some local wineries.
Now we’re creatures of habit, and the very first year we happened upon Barrel Oak Winery and loved it so much, we’ve made a point to go back every year.
However, we also aim to stop at one or two wineries in the same area of Delaplane, Va. (it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it) before settling in with a bottle of wine and more cheese than we can handle.
So this year we started by visiting Delaplane Cellars and let me tell you, the view from their tasting room is something to marvel at.
^^Imagine looking out on that in the Fall.^^
But more than just the view, their wine was fantastic. We picked up a bottle of their Merlot to save for a later date.
Oh, and the natural light in their beautiful tasting room wasn’t too shabby. In fact, it allowed me to grab a few posed pictures. Don’t worry, it was the only ones I made them take all day!
After that stop we made our way to Barrel Oak Winery, where we did a tasting (you know, in case we needed a refresher) and met up with Matt – he gave us our first tasting way back when we were young’ins – for a tour of the beautiful property.
^^He went above and beyond and really gave us a close look at how they create their delicious wines.^^
Their tasting room also happens to have a beautiful view, so we before we left we reveled in the snow covered mountains, and all that cheese we brought with us.
^^As we were leaving we happened upon this beautiful sunset, which I’d say was a good way to end our day!^^
After sharing this with all of you, I’m thinking we should probably do this more than once a year, right? 🙂
