Spring has sprung (finally!)…

| Living life..., Raising pups...

and all of our yard work is starting pay off. There might just be a light at the end of this drab-looking-yard tunnel.

So a few weeks ago, our little hill in the backyard wasn’t looking so hot…

In fact, here’s where we were two weeks ago when Jeff started to plant more Creeping Phlox to add to the few planted last spring. Unfortunately, some of the original Creeping Phlox’s from last year didn’t make it thanks to a little dog named Piper who likes to ruin anything nice and new around our house. She’s the reason we can’t have nice things, especially remote controls. 🙂

^^That would be Jeff in the above photo having his morning coffee.^^

Thankfully with a little hard work (and yes, mostly thanks to Jeff), sunny weather (!), and a few rainy days, the hill is starting to look alive (with the sound of music. 😉 ).

In fact, as of yesterday here’s where we’re at:

Nice improvement, right?

Now if only we could get our grass to grow. One of these days I tell you.

As a side note, I feel like I’ve been slacking off in showing the two cuter, furrier members of our household. So I’ll leave you with a few bonus photos of my sweet little loves.

Is 2013 over already?

| Living life...

Where did the time go? I know, I know we’re all asking ourselves that question today, but I swear the years just keep going faster. We’re all agreed on that, right? Good. Now I can leave you with a long post recapping what I think was Jeff and I’s best year yet!

In fact, I started this little blog almost a year ago and in that time I think I managed to capture all of our favorite moments of 2013 (much to Jeff’s dismay, but he’ll thank me for it later 🙂 ). So before you head out for your big new year’s party, I highly recommend you take a quick look at our year-end review. I mean it’s probably more exciting than any other plans you might have to ring in 2014. 😉

I’ll make it quick, but if you’ve been following along you may remember…

When Jeff and I we’re lucky to experience the inauguration of President Obama on a cold January Day,

Innauguration Edited 2

Or when we started preparing Jeff’s house for our move-in day, including a little room just for me

Dressing Room - Office 1

(the room even includes a desk Jeff spent an entire weekend refurbishing),

Desk After 2

and when Jeff bravely gave me free reign over decorating the newly remodeled bathroom (he might still be regretting it),

Bathroom After 6

then the big move-in day came and went,

Moving Day 3

and it was back to home-renovations including a shiny new (sort of) front door, and freshly painted kitchen cabinets,

Kitchen Before and After

but we also managed to fit in some summer fun along the way too,

CR 2013 8

before we thought it would be a good idea to try to make our own countertops (and by “we,” I mean Jeff),

Concrete Countertops 7

but we took a break from that for my favorite part of the whole year, you know, that time we got ENGAGED!

Proposal

After that big day, we sort of spent the next few weeks relishing in the news by celebrating with our parents in Texas and our friends here in D.C.,

Meet the Parents Texas

Engagement Party 5

but then it was back to work on what Jeff hoped would be the finishing touches on our new countertops,

Broken Countertops 2

^^I would call this a fail. 🙁 ^^

so after that small setback, we basically took the rest of the year off (from home renovations, turns out we can’t afford not to work) traveling to New York for a wedding and Kansas City to spend time with my family for Thanksgiving,

NYC 15

Photobooth Fun 1

where we also got to take some beautiful engagement photos captured by my talented cousin,

and last, but certainly not least, we celebrated the holiday season with family, friends, and lots of pretty greenery!

Christmas Caroling 10

Oh and I almost made it through this little recap without mentioning the two most important members of our household, but I think it goes without saying that we pretty much spent the entire year spoiling our little pups like crazy.

^^How could you not?^^

Okay, I think I got it all, at least the big stuff anyway.

I have a feeling 2014 isn’t going to find our little household slowing down any, but with any luck we’ll continue to make progress on home renovations, (countertops maybe?) and plan a wedding day that highlights our love and commitment. I’m not planning on putting my camera down anytime soon, so I’ll be sure to keep you posted along the way.

Happy New Year! Best wishes for 2014!

They just grow up so fast…

these two. 🙂

Dogs Playing

So in the midst of weddings (not ours yet!) and working on our never-ending project (at least it feels that way), I’ve realized I’ve forgotten to give you all a little update on the pups. I know you’ve been clamoring for one.

Well luckily for you, they’re still crazy and cute as ever. Which….is probably why I followed them around the yard last weekend for far too long trying to snap the best photos.  I’m that dog mom I’ll admit it, but hey, at least Jeff was thankful the camera wasn’t on him for once.

I think she’s saying, “Wait, you took my toy Cosmo!” Or something like that.

^^I mean, but seriously, would you be able help yourself either?^^

Okay, so aside from chasing the dogs around, we did get SOME work done. That was until Jeff’s tools failed.

As we wait for the new ones to arrive, I thought I’d leave you with a little photographic evidence of the next phase of the project.

Cutting the Kitchen Countertops

We’re getting there slowly but surely. And, here’s hoping we have a much more productive weekend!

P.S. Oh yeah, and Happy Halloween!
